Back to reality....what kind of shape are the 4345's in? You said they've never been repaire or modded....I'm thinking you may need some surrounds?
Even if so, if the overall condition is good, these beauties will be well worth whatever you have to put into them (if anything).

Pete
Actually my wife got mad at me for being on the computer all day! I did go to bed early though.....makes the time go by faster! Re. the surrounds, they are perfect & not in need of replacement. I am really excited to compare them to my Khorns, should be interesting! I'll let you know my findings, also I think the consensus is that they need to be off the floor about 6" (especially a carpeted one) I'll have to do something about that to have a "fair" shootout...

Default Jbl 4345

OK....., WHEW!!! 265 miles 1 way, my big King Ranch F250 and these suckers hardly FIT!! Thank goodness the weather was good as i could not cover the speakers because of my automatic Bed cover! It JUST fit. Well, another 265 miles home ,got them home and hooked up! Turned up the volume on my 2 Mcintosh MC2000 amps in MONO pushing about 260 watts and, (drum roll)...... WELL... I think they need more Power!! Not as in your face like my Khorns (but of course the Khorns are alot more efficent). The speakers are definetly more smoother sounding, but, MAN I had my Needles pegged! I guess I'll have to get some MC 500 Mono Blocks to get the most out of them! Pic will have to wait until after newYear as My daughter grabbed the camera.

Thats exactly what I'm thinking! I just put on the new Gov't Mule album ( and I mean ALBUM not CD) and without out a dought the JBL beats the Khorns in the Bass dept. But the Khorns seem more detailed and Tight by comparison. Again, this might be due to sensitivity..., I think the Khorns are like 103 db compared to about 95 db for the JBL's, give or take...

Yes I do....Let me reiterate, The Jbl seems to "surround" you with bass. I always thought that of the Khorns, now it seems the Bass on the Khorn is more "precise & focused' compared to the Jbl. I'm also pretty tired, I'll have another go after the new year. Also forgot to mention that i did not lift the JBL's 6" off the ground as was suggested. Time, time, time is on my side...

I can't wait to see pics of these babies....and yes you will have a low end with those 2245H drivers like no other. JBL's are efficient, and I'm sure the 4345's are no exception. As efficient as the Khorns? probably not...the Khorns are famous for their efficiency. But you may want to consider, as you and two dot have already said here, something like a pair of MC501's for these babies. With the dynamic capabilities of the 4345's, an amp such as the 501's will do them the proper justice. You wouldn't be sorry, I'm sure.

You've got a great pair of speakers with the 4345's. Congratulations.

Pete

I recently picked up a pair of very nice L166s from the original owner. Purchased in Rockville, MD in 1978 at a cost of more than $1k..!!

Nice speakers. Love the grilles.

Very nice find! The L166 was a nice speaker. They were produced back in "the day" and yes, the grilles on the L166 were really cool.

Post some pics if you can!

Pete
