Default JBL - The Sound Of Live Music

For all the talk about speakers, what sounds best, or what sounds like live music, I can't help but think of all the live music and live event venues I have been in over the past 40+ years that used JBL Professional Sound speakers to put on the shows. From small jazz clubs, to concert arenas, to sports stadiums, and movie theaters, JBL is the sound of live music and professional performances. This goes back many, many years, up to and including the present.

Just to name drop a few major JBL events, the first to come to mind was Woodstock. All JBL. Greatful Dead, all JBL. Santana Concerts, JBL. The list of current JBL Pro users is so long there is no point in trying to list them all, but touching on recent highlights, the Beijing Olympics used JBL in 12 of their sports venues, including the fabulous Fencing Hall, soon to become the Chinese National Convention Hall.

The most famous film festival in the world in Cannes, France, the Cannes Film Festival uses JBL exclusively. In Dallas, Texas, the American Airlines Center stadium is powered by Crown and JBL. The Chinese Show Palace, Mann Grauman's Chinese Theater use JBL. JBL was used for sound reinforcement at the past two presidential inagurations. This doesn't even scratch the surface where JBL can be found in daily use.

The list of movie cinema theaters that use JBL is staggering. The entire CEC movie theater chain, as well as all Marcus Theaters nation wide use JBL in sophisticated muti-channel surround sound systems.

For live concerts, JBL is the most selected brand among all others to be seen on stages world wide. The largest share of the rental market for sound reinforcement speakers belongs to JBL.

When one speaks of hearing live music, unless it is strictly unamplified, it is very often the sound of JBL Pro speakers that they are hearing. JBL is the sound of live music.

Or maybe they had the lion's share of the market due to pricing structure or lack of any other "volume" manufacturer? Sort of like Microsoft?

JBL's experience in large venue sound reinforcement is unmatched in the world. They have been doing this for a long time, on scales that would blow the average person's mind. You won't find arrays like this in the local stereo store.

Dan,

I TOTALLY agree and your point is VERY well taken, at least by me.

BUT... Why can't we get the better upper end stuff in the States? Is that changing? I saw an ad for the Everest in Architectural Digest last month.

I do know that most of the upper end vintage stuff has long been cornered by the Asian and European markets... that alone should tell you something.

Die hard audiophiles those 'uns....

This was the JBL Vertec system with four array locations for the main (World Stage) at Rock in Rio, the world’s largest music festival. The first in two series of shows, Rock in Rio Lisbon featured performances by Lenny Kravitz, Bob Dylan, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Rod Stewart, and Linkin Park. The second series of shows in Madrid featured Bob Dylan, Franz Ferdinand, Chris Cornell, Neil Young, Shakira, The Police, and Amy Winehouse.

You won't find this set up at you local audio salon. JBL is live music.

Dan,

I think that you have finally found a speaker system that will give me all of the volume that I crave.

Thanks,

I am calling JBL in the morning...

Yep, I still cringe when I think how much hearing I must have lost attending some of those live venues.

JBL rocking downtown Rome, Italy this year during their annual public event commemorating the Italian Labor Day. Around the world, JBL is the sound of live music.
