In the studio control room I use a pair of JBL LSR6328 powered near field monitors at the console. The are very accurate, and go surprisingly low with the 8 inch woofers. The LSR6328P is a two-way system with an 8-inch woofer and 1-inch composite diaphragm tweeter. These drivers are biamped with a 250-watt LF amplifier and a 120-watt HF amplifier, which provides, according to JBL, a-flat +1 dB/-1.5 dB response from 50 Hz to 20 kHz, with a low frequency extension all the way down to 36 Hz.

I'll bet the LSR6328's are a great monitor. I use a pair of 4401's in my office, and I like them. They definitely need a sub-I use a JBL PB10 powered sub. No doubt there are better subs out there, but I get a respectable performance from the combo. The rest of my office system is a Crown IC150A preamp, DC300 amp, McIntosh MR78 Tuner, Soundcraftsmen RP2212 Eq and a Carver SD/A-490t CD player.

I also use a pair of JBL EON10 G2 powered speakers with the Roland Fantom X6 keyboard. The JBL EON10 G2 is a bi-amped speaker with 125 watts on the 10" woofer, and 50 watts on the 1" compression driver with titanium diaphragm. They sound great with the Roland keyboard.

I guess you can put me down as a JBL fan, too.

That could be, Dan! So tell me, Dan...what JBL was the first model you heard, before you ever owned a JBL, that forever changed your mindset-that is, after which you had (or wanted) to own a pair of JBL's?

For me, what did it was a pair of Lancer 99's at a friend's house. His Dad owned a pair. I think at that point, I still was listening to a pair of AR-2ax's, ad a pair of Dynaco A-25's. When I heard the Lancer 99's, I was ruined! It wasn't until a few years later that I bought my first pair-the L100's.

My first experience with Lansing was through Altec Lansing. It was the Voice of the Theater A7 speakers. A good friend had them, driving them with a pair of McIntosh MC30 mono tube amps. I could not believe the sound, the dynamics, and the volume these speakers could produce. I bought that system from him. Being young, and moving often, it wasn't long before no one wanted to help me again when it was time to move the big Altec Lansings, so I sold them. I never lost my desire for the Lansing sound, even today.

Haven't heard the K2 S9900 but some of the other JBL K2 speakers sound a lot like one's from the 50's - 80's, dynamic but with a strong forwardness of the horns.

Finding a MINT pair of 4301b's is what got me interested in setting up a west coast system.

Still love that sound.

This pair had been stored in cabinets behind doors and never saw the light of day. When I say MINT I mean MINT!!!
