Default Tandberg Vintage System

My Tandberg 3026A power amplifier (150w x 2) arrived today. It was the final piece of the puzzle for a new vintage sound system. I mated it with a Tandberg 3008A preamplifier, JVC XL-Z1050 CD player, Sony 730ES tuner, and my JBL 4312A speakers. It is sounding very good. The Tandberg preamp and power amplifier are excellent. The JVC CD player is a premium K2 player from the 90's and still sounds very good, with a sweet transport. I may add a Wyred 4 Sound DAC2 to the JVC's digital output to bring the DAC's up to date. The Sony 730ES has a well earned reputation as a fine FM tuner, and it is very clean. All the components, as well as the JBL 4312A speakers are in excellent condition, and together make a very nice vintage sound system. I purchased the tuner, CD player and speakers new, and have taken very good care of them. I purchased the Tandberg 3008A preamp used about five years ago, and the 3026A power amp last week. I would still like to find a Tandberg 3001A Tuner. It is a lot of fun to build a great sounding vintage system from good components. I have this system jamming right now, and it is sounding very good.

Dan,

I used to have that exact same system - with a Tandberg tuner - the 3001-A. I feel that the sound was equivalent to much of the current high end and was sorry to see it go when I sold it. The tuner was the sonic equal of any I've ever heard - hope you can find one.

Looking good Dan! I've never owned any Tandberg gear but I know they have long been a respected name.

Julian.......That is the exact tuner I am hoping to find. I think the 3008A preamp, 3026 power amp, and 3001A tuner would be the cat's meow for a vintage system. I agree with you about the sonic performance of this particular Tandberg preamp and power amp. I have been listening now for a few hours, and the gear is quite revealing and dynaimic. The preamp and amp are also dead quiet. I am impressed with this system.

Now THIS is fun! I think I like this strategy, except I'm not in the know about which systems out there that are vintage would hold their own against today's products. I just think it's fun to keep the old stuff alive and kicking if reasonable. Sounds like it is. Congratulations!

Pete.......Vintage systems can be fun, but you have to be selective. A lot of the older gear from 20 to 30 years ago has seen some wear and tear. Deciding on which components you want, then finding them in good shape can take some time. It took me five years to find a clean Tandberg power amp to go with the Tandberg preamp. I have seen many Tandberg power amps for sale, but they were in poor condition, and some had been modified. I only wanted a clean stock model. Patience is the key to finding exactly what you want.
