Default We Have a Winner: Best Computer Playback Software

I have used extensively Pure Music, Amarra, Audirvana, Ayre Wave, And Bit Perfect. In the past I used Pure Music for my red book rips and Audirvana's free download for the FLAC files downloaded from HD Tracks. I was pretty happy with Pure Music, however the interface looked goofy and not very exciting. Audirvana was an easy playback interface for the FLAC files mostly because my FLAC library was relatively small. and I love the Stereo Component icon on my TV.

When Amarra lowered their price, I bought that too. I kind of liked it, but using the iPad to control a Mac Mini wasn't the best way to control the software. Sounded great, maybe even better than Pure Music, but I just didn't get warm fuzzys over the interface.

About a week ago, I downloaded Audirvana Plus free for 15 days. Improved sound over the last version, and still an easier software to use without a mouse and keyboard. And the ITunes integration is excellent, far better than Pure Music.

For $49 this is an easy recommendation!

Thanks for this, Gaucho. There are so many players now I get confused. $49 is something even I can afford.

I just did the same 15 sec period trials on same songs with Audirvana Plus & Bit Perfect during the one song & couldn't tell the difference, maybe it's me. I will say they are both good though.

Audirvana + is a great software with its direct and integer mode for usb device which accept this mode. It works great with my new ML mini 2011 with 8go ram, 1to hard drive and halide bridge (i'm waiting a new hiface2) and my mcd500.
Now, you can integer your sacd iso rip (a friend of me did it with his ps3 and my sacd collection) directly in the itune library, and play them with remote app with an ipad

Yes, a very great software for less than $50

Very timely thread, as I picked up a Macmini last week to dedicate as a music server. In the past I used a MBP with Pure, but the Pure interface wasn't to my liking.

Pardon my ignorance, would this software be sent to the mini plug?

I plug the laptop into the main system via the above connection.

Yes, it would. Are you using a mini optical out to your pre?

I believe that will handle DSD files too, is that correct?
