Too late master, grasshopper has jumped! It's to be expected in this day & age that the quality of recording leaves a lot to be desired as the last 30 years have been winding up to a head. There will always be disappointments along the way, but there will also be little gems out there too, that is what I am so happy to come across Jérôme, I guess what I am really trying to say is that for mine, if I sat down in front of my system, I'm the only one home, I'm cooking my favourite meal with 2 bottles of Shiraz from Sth Aus, just in case, no interruptions & stellar recordings chosen from my MBP, the emphasis being stellar recordings, these things touch my soul, food, wine & excellent music. I still enjoy my "other" cd's but not when I am bonding with "me".

Jérôme, it is also my experience that a lot of the recordings out there have crappy sound quality.
The more revealing your system is, the more annoying it becomes to listen to those albums.
I remember clearly the moment when my wife put a CD with film music of one of Pedro Almodóvars movies into the tray of our new Burmester.
After a couple of notes she brought out, in utter disbelief: "Oh my God, this sounds so awful, I have to stop this right away!".
The flip side of the coin: good recordings now sound so delicious that we listen a lot more to music nowadays, and our TV is hardly on anymore.
And for our bad recordings, we still have our Bose!

That is the value of threads like the classical one: we, audiophile music lovers, filter out the good recordings.

Kev - are you using your msb DAC with a Mac via USB ?

I have the msb Diamond Signature IV DAC with the Femto Clock option installed at home right now, and have some problems with USB input. I'm experiencing some static 'pops' from time to time. It is noticable when I'm not using the internal volume attenuation. With volume set to -18dB the poping sound is very much attenuated. But still there. Im using PC based server.

Hi Adam, yes I am using the usb2/384 upgrade on the DAC IV Signature, haven't experienced the problems you mentioned although did experience software glitches that may have been relative to remotes, just a guess, hence my upgrade to the Diamond. The Femto is the only upgrade option that I never chose & am hoping to hear it tomorrow. Would be very interested in your comparison between this & the dCS. Another thought, has the software had the latest updates?

I also have the usb2/384 option installed with the msb Win 7 driver which is supposed to be bulletproof :-/

I will try to post my impressions in a few days.

Adam, I just unpacked my dac & it has the USB driver cd for W7 with it. Do you have this as it mentioned the software should be 1.19.0 for W7.

Yes, I installed this very driver. Need to play with the buffer size - maybe that will help. Emailed msb about the driver 2 weeks ago ... still no reply. Poor customer service in my book.

Adam, the buffer did come to mind but my knowledge is very limited in this field. I have heard that Larry at MSB has had some traumatic family issues to deal with & things should be returning to normal, send the email again, you can only try.
