Audioquest has a nice range of USB cables, though many of us are using the Halide USB to S/PDIF bridge (along with Pure Music) to pass higher than Redbook resolution files. There's probably additional discussion in the digitial music / servers forum.

I've just installed a WW Silver Starlight USB in my system (between Mach2Mini and Audiophileo2 feeding a Rega Dac) and it's sounding better than the Cardas Clear it replaces. Day 1 ....

Thank you Ivan!

I'm glad to find this thread. I'm relatively new to music via USB, streatiming music, etc.

I listen to Pandora maily via a laptop. I have B&W MM1's on my desk. They have there own DSP. The cable is a short Audioquest Carbon. I'm pretty pleased with the set-up as is.

However, my mind often wonders about 'the next upgrade'.

I'm curious what other cables may be better than what I have now. Especially if you have experience with AQ Carbon and some other cable.

USB is an area where I'd suggest possible use of a contact enhancer on mating surfaces not be overlooked, especially where the less expensive cable variants have been employed. I don't know if I trust any pedestrian plating to hold up in a USB implementation and a contact enhancer is cheap insurance for signal transfer, Also, before replacing the prior sample completely, re-seat both cable ends, re-listen, then replace and give another listen to your new baby. Perhaps that may provide a more accurate comparison between new and old, barring burn-in issues.

Welcome, RnR !

Good thought. Certainly the USB connector is marginal to start with, and a good place to try a few tweaks

My favourite contact enhancers are highly conductive, so I'll need a steady hand to try this, though.

I have found differences amongst cables, but the magnitude varies dependent on the source. And I have also found the source to be more of an influence on the sound than the cable. So, personally, I would not be buying a $500+ USB cable unless I was convinced the money would not have been better spent on upgrading the source.

Ahoy, Mates! Thank you for the gracious welcome. ;-)

It'll also be interesting to see just how far USB receivers/sub-systems can mature in the next year or two to null cable variances - but for now, I'm sticking with my Silflex Toslink. Although I think I can see a USB variant eventually ruling the waves (even in Somalia!) for universal applicability.

I recommend the Synergistic Tricon USB. However, I agree with an earlier post that I would consider upgrading other parts of my system before spending $500+ on a USB cable.
