I'm a little confused on how to control volume when using the remote with the BDA-1.

I got the remote. Am I gonna have to program the remote? I'm assuming D/A selection on the remote is for the BDA.

When I look at the remote manual, it shows "functional keys" with certain Bryston products. Interesting is that "volume" isn't shown as functional keys with the BDA.

Please tell me the remote can control the BDA volume and I don't have to have a seperate preamp.

The BDA-1 does not have a volume control built in - adjusting volume in the digital domain is not a good idea as you lose resolution as you lower the volume.

What source are you using for the playback? And adjusting the digital volume isn't a bad thing unless you are doing exactly that - which a DAC should never do. It should be digitally adjusting the analogue volume level (*edit - assuming it acts as a pre stage). If not, I would cry foul.

If your source has a volume control (say laptop - did you ever check out that HiFace?) and you have a Droid or iPhone you can control just about anything without a separate remote.

Second thing - I just read the user manual and nowhere does it state it operates as a pre. No foul. :P

I'm still jealous the power button works on the BDA-1. Doesn't on the MDA!

No foul at all. Got confused as the option of getting the remote. It has volume controls. You know when you read about the product...they talk about the remote as an option. Didn't realize that remote was compatible with several Bryston products and the volume control was for their preamps.

This does screw up my plans though.

I was gonna use 3 digital sources beyond CD....One of my issues I had with the MCD500...only two digital inputs.

I'm bummed as I'm having some company in a few weeks and I have no way to control volume. I hate making sudden decisions on audio equip purchases...but I obviously gonna have to do something.

I'll look into that HiFace thing again.....I looked at that when we first talked about it...but forgot the details...
