Default Bryston B-100 SST Integrated Amp

Bryston's B-100 SST integrated amplifier has the option to add a plug in Digital stage with four digital inputs to this very nice piece of audio equipment. The B-100 SST also has an optional moving magnet phono stage, as well. It is the B-100 SST's optional four input DAC with its own independent power supply, that I find most interesting. In this 100 watts x 2 channel at 8 ohms ( 180 watts x 2 at 4 ohms) integrated amplifier, an included internal DAC makes it quite unique in the audio world. No outboard DAC required for that music server, internet streaming device, or laptop. This concept eleminates the need for two expensive analog interconnects, plus the analog outputs are directly connected inside the amp keeping those signal paths as short as possible. I like this idea a lot.

Philip Beaudette reviewed the Bryston B-100 SST for SoundStage, and gushed over it from start to finish, where he stated, "The B100 SST is easily the best integrated amp I've heard." SoundStage! Equipment Review - Bryston B100 SST Integrated Amplifier (8/2006) . That's quite a recommendation.

The Bryston B-100 SST might be worth an audition if you are shopping for a serious integrated amplifier that won't leave you wanting for a DAC. And don't forget about that 20 year, transferable warranty. That alone is amazing.

Dan...just an fyi but Simaudio's i3.3 is also a 100wpc integrated that you can add DAC and mm/mc phono modules to...also, i believe Naim's Supernait 80wpc integrated also has an onboard DAC. In case you were going to audition the Bryston (excellent gear by the way), I thought I'd mention other options for you to look into with the same functionality. I actually find the Simaudio house sound to be very resolving, balanced across the frequency spectrum and tonally neutral. Lets you hear everything upstream from it but not in a sterile or analytical way. Naim on the other hand is not nearly as resolving as either Bryston or Simaudio, having a bit darker hue to its sound, but there is something propulsive and musical about the Naim house sound that is very pleasing. Happy auditioning

Here's the Simaudio i3.3: Simaudio MOON i3.3 Integrated Amplifier

Also here's a review from Phil Beaudette (once again) in which he compares the i3.3 to the Bryston B100 SST: GoodSound! Equipment Review - Simaudio Moon i3.3 Integrated Amplifier (6/2009)

Neil Gader (TAS) and Robert Reina (Stereophile) also gave it favorable reviews.

I just traded in a Mac MA6500 for a Bryston B-100 SST with the built in Dac.
Unfortunately they shipped me a B-100 without the dac. I did listen to this one for a day before I shipped it back. With no dac I was able to directly compare it to the Mac it was replacing. I use it with a Sonos in our family room.
I have to say that the Bryston blows the Mac away. I was hearing things I never heard before and the bass was so much more clean, it made the Mac bass sound muddy. Can't wait to hear it with the dac as well.
I also purchased a B60 integrated to use in our motorhome and while I am waiting for the B-100 to get here I hooked it up and I think I like it better than the Mac as well.
I was hesitant about switching from Mac to Bryston, but my dealer eassured me I wouldn't be disappointed and he was right.
Now this has me re-thinking my big Mac room upstairs.

Dirtbag,

Welcome.

I am extremely interested in hearing in more about your findings.

Please tell us a little more about what gear you are using the new integrated with, and also what you have in the "big mc room"

The Bryston integrated's with the built in DAC's are really interesting.

Photos would be god also.

I'll be using the B-100 with a Sonos box for source and it will de driving a pair of DeVore Fidelity Gibbon Super 8's. I liked the ides of a 1 box solution that the Bryston gives but am really happy that sound quality actually will be improved. I loved the Mac (great looks and smooth mellow sound) but I find for me it was too big (wife wanted something less obtrusive) and I seem to be heading towards simple basic equipment.
In the big Mac room I have a pair of MC275's in mono, C2200 for a pre-amp.
Surround sound is handled by a MC207 for center and rear channels (I got a great deal on that) controlled by a MX119. MVP871 for CD and DVD playback. Sonos thru a Bryston BDA-1 is my main source. 58" Panasonic plasma for video.Speakers are Klipsch LaScalla II's and a JL F112 sub, with B&W for center and surround.
To my ears it is an incredible system that has both power and detail.
But I'm thinking that I don't know if I need the surround setup. We watch TV using 2 channel and it works great and music is my main focus.
If I sold off the surround equipment that might free up enough cash to step up to the next level.
Maybe Boulder

Thanks for the info.

Yes, sometimes simpler is better.

You have really good taste in speakers too, a music lover you must be...

The Devore's are really wonderful speakers and LaScala's are one of my all time favorites!

Enjoy the new Bryston.

Two other Integrated Amps I wouldn't mind are the Pass Labs INT-150 and INT 30-A.
