Very well written, accurate review. Leave it to the British.

Hello everyone,

I just finished reading Robert Harley's (TAS 208) review of the 802D2 on the eve of receiving mine tomorrow. I anxiously await... The speakers and recommend the read as well.

Can anyone confirm the review that the new diamond speakers have a somewhat more aggressive voicing than the previous generation?

I just read the review of the new 802D in the December issue of TAS. Harley confirms my short listening experience with the newer speaker. They are a nice improvement over the last series that was introduced in 2004. I owned a pair for a couple of years and have often stated they were the best bargain in hi-end speakers. He kind of sums it up with
"Several experienced high-end manufacturers visited me while I had the 802d's and all expressed amazement not just how good the 802's sounded, but also that any $15,000 speaker could deliver such performance. Of, course $15,000 is a significant investment, but these industry veterans are accustomed to hearing six-figure mega-systems."

Jim.......Is there any difference in the designation that differenciates the original 802D from the newer 802D with the upgraded diamond tweeter? Is it 802Di?

Not that I can tell. The B&W website refers to them as Series Diamond. There are several small physical differences. The speaker connections have moved. There are silver rings around the drivers and the "ball" has lost its metal flake look.

Jim.......Thanks. There is a ealer in Tampa, about 155 miles from me, that carries B&W, Wilson, and McIntosh. I can hear both speakers at the same location. I may have to make that drive.

... perhaps I can slide the new ones into the front and hide the old ones in the back doing surround duty? Think the wife would notice?
