FYI the 802D's are now 14K retail. They had yet another price hike, (conspiracy theorist here) likely in response to the $16K XR200's debut at CES.

XR200 FTW, however.

Default BW802D tweeter issue.

Any one had any issue with the BW802D diamond tweeter actually breaking? I need to replace a damaged tweeter, actually broken. I am not overdriving them. No one has confessed to bumping into the tweeter. I have to admit that I have removed all speaker grill/covers. Seems like they stretch a little further up with the metal mesh tweeter covers removed. They are in my bedroom so they are not exposed to much traffic.
Replacement tweeter are around $1,100. Anyone have a better source?
Using MC2200, MC1201's, MR78, MVP861, MCD205

If they are still under warranty just say the driver blew, especially if you can prove that your amp could in no way overpower them. (And if you have no proof that someone actually damaged the driver...)

Sounds like it was a defective tweeter from the beginning those things are fairly resistent (unless someone actually forcefully punctures it).

Most B&W dealers can get a replacement driver and with auth from home base can just replace the affected driver, no cost to you.

Beautiful, clean setup! I'm certainly partial to B&W802s! Ted.

They actually jacked the price last spring when the exchange rate got to $2 for a pound (it's back down to something like $1.47 now, but I doubt the price has dropped!).

Shows you how often I speak to my B&W dealer... it was post-CES and prior to that... we didn't speak about the 802D's

That seems risky not having the grille on the tweeters. They seemed to exposed to me, but I did hear the price of replacement when I bought my speakers, so that probably contributed to my paranoia!

I never removed the grille off the diamond tweeter. Wasn't taking any chances. The other grills stayed in the boxes till they were sold.

Just an F.Y.I. I was Offered $9500.00 to trade in my 802d's for a pair of Wilson Watt Puppy 8's for $17,000. Dealer said the price dropped due to discontinuing. Tempting I could trade my speakers and get the wilson's for $7500. But then I would need to buy/sell a new center and new rears, the wilson center was around $5,000 and the rears $8,000??? that just doesn't sound right. At first I thought I was getting a great deal. For 2 ch. maybe, but a complete upgrade, hmmmmm seems too costly.
