I got away from McIntosh for awhile and owned a couple of Ayre systems. I'm a fan of Ayre and love their sound. Great design and great people who work at Ayre.

Sure Jdandy, back to simple I don’t even own a CD player anymore (I will soon buy a blu-ray though) and soon will need a preamp back in (C46) as will consolidate my AV system 5.1 into 2 channel , also been through Jadis DA88, MA2275 (great integrated), Gryphon Diablo integrated, Electrocompanient AW180 (Class A Monos) – I won’t even get into CD players or speakers. In the end there are only 2 things that draw me to a product - the sound of course and the consistent history of caring back-up from the company. That’s why I have levitated to Ayre and Mac on amplification.

I owned the MX-Rs for about 4 years. They do not like hard to drive speakers at all. They were great with a pair of 8 ohm ProAc floor standers. But my Revel Salon Ultima 2s just sucked the life out of these amps. They sounded very thin and got very hot. I even sent them back to Ayre to make sure they were OK. So if your speakers are hard to drive: stay away. I replaced them with the ballsy and cool running ARC DS450.

The MXR's are a great match with my Sasha's!

I have my MX-Rs paired with Watt Puppy 7s with no issue whatsoever. More power/reserve than I could even need or want.
