Put them behind the Elipsas! Then you cant see them.

IMHO the Silver are the way to go.

'cisco.......Thank you for reposting the photos of Lyle's system. Keith and I were just talking about this the other day, and I thought I had saved the photos, but I had not. I saved them this time. Yes, Lyle traded in his complete McIntosh system for the Ayre system, including the Ayre L-5xe AC power filters, one for each MX-R amplifier. This is a picture of Lyle's system before the Ayre gear. I really like his custom made audio rack, too.

Has Lyle ever compared the two systems for us here on AA?

Jim.......I don't think he has done that. I had many conversations with Lyle by PM and on the telephone while he was setting up and tweaking the McIntosh system, and the PMC EB1i speakers. I also encouraged him to install some acoustic panels and bass traps in his room, since he was having slap echo and standing wave issues. Much to his wife's dismay, he put up seven panels and two bass traps, if I remember correctly, and told me it was a huge improvement for his room. Then one day he called me from Canada and said the McIntosh gear had all been traded for a complete Ayre system, and that he was happier with Ayre than McIntosh. For a while there he was considering trading the McIntosh system for Bryston.

I emailed him a few months ago just to see how he was doing, and he told me he still has the Ayre gear, and still loving it. He said his wife still mumbles under her breath when the acoustic panels and my name are mentioned.

I guess I am fortunate that my wife doesn't care what I do in my 2-channel room, so my acoustic panels are not an issue.

When you get to the level of McIntosh, Ayre or several others, it just becomes a matter of personal preferences.
Jim

I use Internet Streaming, Wadia 27ix, Ayre MXR monoblocks, Final Sound 1000i ESLs, JPS Aluminata & Ridge Street Enopias Audio Cabling. I used to have a full Mac system MS750,MCD1k,MDA1k, C46,MC501s and also 2xMC275s, before Mac had full Mark Levinson CD Pre 390s/436 Monos etc system. I moved to Ayre MXRs. Difference is that Ayre has a cleaner, liquid and smoother sound to my ears, it has no emphasis at all in the audio band that works better for me for long listening hours. The 501s bass is not as clear in the audio band and the midrange is more noticeable. Ayre to me sounds like a push pull valve amp without the valve subsonics . All in all maybe the Ayre is for me between the Levinson and Mac sound. That all said I could live with Mac easily if I had never come accross the MXRs. I still plan on buying a C46 again as I miss it so much. Because of all this Ayre sound good with panels and horn type speakers (JBL/Tannoy). Anyhow caught site of this thread and thought I would add my subjective bit.

PartTimeJedi.......That is certainly a great system you have assembled. You have been around the horn and back with gears. The 27ix straight to the MX-R amps is about as pure a signal path as can be used.
