Hello Dan, I have only used SACDs' and CDs' through the player. I don't own any dvd audio discs or mp3 discs.

Charlie Hansen of Ayre mentioned how to burn those new high rez 192 files to DVD to be able to listen to the Ayre CDP. I'll look for that info.

I presume that you are running the 5xe direct into the KX-R so you can listen to SACD's. Are you running only the MS-300 thru the MCA 1000 or are you also running a digital out from the 5xe into the 1000? Just trying to understand how the new filters in the Ayre compare with the 1000.

Jim, the MS300/MDA1000 are a separate entity in my system used through a different input on the KX-R preamp. I am planning on keeping the MDA1000 as an expansion hub (DAC) for the music servers, Sonos/streaming, etc...

That what I thought. I didn't figure you wanted to lose the benefits of those new filters.

I gotta tell you though, the MDA1000 with its upsampling to 768Khz and gentle analog filters really keeps up rather well with the Ayre MP CDP. The MDA/MCD1000 combo was nothing to sneeze at. I almost regret selling the MCD1000. Together they made some serious music. The Ayre pulls ahead a bit with the MP filters and overall transparency on great recordings but the MDA/MCD still put a smoothing effect on the less well recorded material that made them more tolerable. The Ayre is naturally smooth but the MDA/MCD did "sugar coat" the bad recordings a bit better.

A definate +1, Serge.

The Mda1K has made streaming audio become a major listening portion of my time now. Not for hardcore listening (read: Drink, seat, eyes closed, dark room), but while I am typing here, I have a nice shoutcast going... And it's great.

the pictures you posted in your album are great, very clean and uncluttered look. Hope they give all of the new Ayre products that kind of satin, brushed finished. I think the cx-5 would look awesome like that.

+2.

I've said it many times already, but it bears repeating - the MDA1000 does things to digital that amaze me. It has changed my listening habits dramatically.

I know I am nitpicking, but I compared digital with and without the MDA1000 several times, and the term I'd use is smooth-out more than sugar coat. It's like having bedsheets with 1000 thread-count vs. bedsheets with 200 thread count. The term "silky" is what I wrote many times in my notes.

There is no denying the Ayre products are sexy. The gorgeous MX-R mono block amps each begin life as a 75 lb solid block of aluminum, CNC milled to the finished amplifer case that houses all internal components in their respective close tolerance cavities. The entire aluminum case acts as the amplifier's heat sink. The Ayre MX-R is a beauty.
