Default Do-it-Yourself Tube Amp Kit - suggestions

I'm considering buying a integrated or possibly pre- and power- tube amp DIY kit for my 15 year old for Christmas. Just started searching on the net a bit, but thought I'd open it up to folks here for advice. The idea would be for us to work on it and learn together.

I don't even have a soldering iron let alone an engineering background (as my ME wife loves to point out daily), so am completely a newbie at this sort of thing. My son has been active in a robotics club and competition, so this might be a good activity for him. A couple kits I've seen appear to be good for a starter, in the ~$200 range.

Advice and opinions?
